Try It! Renegade Encaustics: Colorful Palette

If you love color and patterns and want to learn how to create it in beautiful wax colors, this is the “Try It!” class for you! Tracy will show you how to paint with hot, pigmented wax, layering color and creating patterns using stencils. You’ll finish your encaustic painting with alcohol ink to add even more color and shine! Great for all levels.

Students rave about this course! Drawing Lab 1 is the first part of a 2-part series to introduce you to drawing and then build on your abilities. Each course, of 4 classes each, will cover all the basics of Drawing! Discussion, demo and practice will be the method. DL1 will be the "basics” – where you need to start if you are a beginner. You'll be learning, understanding, and practicing with the basic materials, techniques, and concepts that are the foundation of observational drawing.

Watercolor Step One

Watercolor Steps 1 and 2 – two separate sessions, of 4 Monday evenings each, which will cover all the basics of painting with Watercolors! Watercolor Step 1 will be the “Basic basics” – an introduction into the amazing world of Watercolor, focusing on materials and basic techniques. This is THE place to start if you are a beginner. WS2 will build on the first series. Take just one, or take both!

Paintings in natural wax can have such intriguing subtlety. And it’s amazingly simple and fun to create these effects! In this class, you will get to use various tools to create line designs in your wax painting, and then add color with oil colors and finish with highlights of sparkly mica powder.


The Basics & Beyond! Oil &  Acrylic Painting

 This five week series will walk you through the elements of creating a series of  paintings in different subject matter using oil or acrylic. Plenty of images will be provided for students to work on in their own time during class, so even if a student is fast at completing their painting,

Finger Painting the Fall Landscape

Located in our off-site studio in Kirkland, in this fun two-day workshop, your fingers will experience the joy of painting brilliant, swirling fall leaves and a forest of gorgeous, white- barked birch trees. Emphasis will be on building texture. Day 2 will teach you how to choose your own scene and apply the techniques learned on Day 1. Perfect for all levels, including beginners.

Color Theory + Color Mixing

Color! Mysterious, wonderful Color! Having a working knowledge of how colors mix is fundamental to painting in acrylics and oils. Tracy will take out the mystery and replace it with a great understanding of pigments, through some fun exercises and cool tools, making your painting more satisfying and successful.

Orchestrating Great Compositions in Pastel

Amanda will share all her knowledge of how to paint with pastels, using different techniques on different surfaces to achieve different results. Join Mike Wise as he shares the secrets of creating paintings of the Northwest landscape with mood and atmosphere. The mystery of the landscape can be captured through lost edges, a cool palette, and a variety of brush and palette knife work. Mike will cover color mixing, paint application with brushes, knives and silicone shapers, and more!


Renegade Encaustics: A Wax & Resin Full Day workshop

Experience two new sensations: the feel of hot melted encaustic wax, and the fun of pouring some clear resin over top to create amazing lustrous shine. ARTspot owner Tracy Felix has cooked up a totally unique class you won’t find anywhere else! You’ll get to use a smorgasbord of art supplies, learning how to build up layers of colorful wax and textures, and finish with a resin pour to make it lustrous and shiny.

Drawing Lab 2 ~ Creating Great Compositions and True Proportions

Drawing Lab 2 is the second part of a 2-part series. If you’ve had beginning drawing, and feel like you need to learn more on this topic, you can take this class, even if you haven’t taken James’ Part 1. Focus will be on techniques for making accurate measurements and techniques for transferring that information to your drawing. Additionally, students will learn and understand how to arrange and place all the elements of a given drawing into a cohesive and unified composition - which is much more engaging and compelling for the viewer.


Dramatic Landscapes and Skies in Acrylic and Oil

Calling experienced finger-painters! Here is a workshop for students who have taken at least one finger painting workshop with Kimberly. Fall is a wonderful time of the year to explore the use of vibrant autumn colors in a landscape. In this two-day or three-day workshop, Kimberly will teach advanced finger-painting techniques that bring fall foliage center stage. Or you can choose to paint your own subject matter. Come and dive deeper into this wonderful technique and create a masterpiece of your very own.

Not suitable for beginners; at least one finger painting workshop with Kimberly is required.

Try It! Renegade Encaustics: Beeswax & Collage

You’ll create a wonderful painting with encaustic (melted beeswax) and collage! Tracy will bring cool papers and other “found objects” for you to use to create your collage. Your finished piece will have wax layered over your collage, and more collage layered into your wax! Great for beginners!

Suminagashi Paper Marbling & Intro to Bookbinding

Learn the beautiful art of Suminagashi – Japanese paper marbling. Mix your own inks, create patterns and swirls in a water bath, then transfer the ink to paper or fabric. Then create wonderful handmade books using Irish linen thread and your own marbled paper on the covers. Beautiful! And just in time for Valentine’s Day giving to a loved one!
