Discovery! Intro to Drawing

Our “Discovery!” series is just for beginners!  In a cheerful, encouraging and non-intimidating environment, Julia will show you how fun and joyful drawing can be.  Even if you’ve always believed you can’t draw, Julia will take you on an adventure of discovery and you’ll see -- you really can draw! Don't delay - this one fills up quickly!

The Joy of Drawing: Part 1
w/ Julia Carpenter

4 Monday mornings / June 10, 17, (skip 24) July 1, 8 / 10:30-1:30

A new take on Drawing Basics! Julia will take you on an adventure of discovery – learning how to really “see”, and teaching you the magical joy of drawing! You’ll learn the basic elements like line, shape, value and form. You’ll learn about simplifying shapes, gauging proportions and how to create depth. This is a great place for beginners to start, and for a refresher course for all artists.

Continue with your joyful drawing adventure with Julia! Learn to be “in the moment” as you actively participate in drawing – learning to deeply focus, which is a calming antidote to our fast-paced world. In this part 2, you’ll explore more methods and materials, practice and hone your new skills and learn some new ones. A great class for beginner to intermediate drawers.

Drawing Adventures
w/ Julia Carpenter

4 Mondays / July 22, 29, August 5, 12 / 2-5 pm 

In this 4-week class, the projects each week will emphasize how to “see” like an artist and practicing techniques. The sessions will differ quarter to quarter! This class is for anyone who likes a new drawing challenge and instruction each week, and is also perfect for those who have completed Julia’s Joy of Drawing and the Joy of Drawing Continues and want to keep on drawing!

Expressive Drawing
w/ Joe Mac Kechnie

Saturday / August 3 / 10:30-4:30

Want to take your drawing skills to the next level?  In this workshop with fantastic teacher Joe Mac Kechnie, you’ll learn to express your inner self and explore creative drawing techniques, using charcoals and ink. Move beyond just copying to producing artistic works! Some drawing experience required.

The Drawing Experience Part 1
w/ Joe Mac Kechnie

5 classes / Wednesdays / Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 / 10:30-1:30

Fall in love with drawing - THE basis for all your future art endeavors. Even if you think you can’t draw a stick figure, instructor and artist Joe Mac Kechnie will teach you how! You will develop basic drawing skills using an approach that combines left and right brain abilities. Most of all, you will thoroughly enjoy yourself in a fun and non-intimidating environment. Great for beginners and a refresher for all levels.

The Drawing Experience 2 with an Expressive Twist w/ Joe Mac Kechnie

5 classes / Wednesdays / Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 / 2-5

A great new take on our classic Drawing Experience Part 2. If you have some basic drawing skills already, whether it’s from Drawing Experience 1 or some other basic class, you are ready for this one! Joe will teach composition and perspective as the backbone of this course. The “twist” is that he’ll be guiding you in expressive and abstractive techniques, to take your drawing level to a fun, creative, exciting place where you learn to express your own voice!
