Faye Castle

From Faye:  Sketchbooks are a place of pure play for me, and a necessary complement to the more complex challenges of painting.  Sketching is a way to fully experience where I am.  It's also a way for me to relate to where I live, what I’m doing, and where I’m going.  With a sketchbook available I’m never bored, whether I'm sketching people while waiting in line at Costco or the back of a pickup truck when stuck in traffic.

My sketchbox has traveled to Japan, Central America and Europe.  When I can look at these sketches I’m immediately drawn back to what it was like to be there.  I can remember exactly what was going on around me even though it was years ago. Sketching involves so many of the senses while you are doing it that those memories stay with you.

My sketchbooks allow me to play with lines and colors and come away with a wonderful record of memories and experiences. In sketching, I can be spontaneous. It truly is thrilling.  I want all my students to feel this freedom and enjoy sketching wherever they go.
