The Joy of Drawing: Part 1

A great take on Drawing Basics! In this 4-week class, Julia will take you on an adventure of discovery – learning how to really “see”, exercising a different part of your brain than you usually use, and teaching you the magical joy of drawing! You’ll learn the basic elements like line, shape, value and form. You’ll learn about simplifying shapes, gauging proportions and how to create depth. This is a great place for beginners to start, and for a refresher course for all artists.

"Try It!" Why not? This class is a great way to try something new: finger painting – adult style!! You can try it in this Friday night class!  Our 2 ½ hour “Try It!” class is the perfect way to have some fun and try something new!  Jed will guide you step by step through the process painting a beautiful landscape in acrylics of our lovely Skagit Valley. Sumi-e Art and Notans Painting for Beginners

Elegant and harmonious, ancient and beautiful, traditional ink wash paintings are a wonderful form of artistic expression!  You will have a great introduction to Sumi ink technique, design and materials on the first day. Day 2 will be all about color Sumi-e techniques and Notan studies. Perfect for all levels, even beginners! If you’re already a watercolorist, this is be a great way to improve your watercolor techniques.

Try It! Encaustics: Colorful Palette

If you love color and patterns and want to learn how to create it in beautiful wax colors, this is the “Try It!” class for you!  Tracy will show you how to paint with hot, pigmented wax, layering color and creating patterns using stencils, and you’ll finish your encaustic painting with alcohol ink to add even more color and shine! Great for all levels.

Try It! Encaustics: Designs and Color in Wax

 Paintings in natural wax can have such intriguing subtlety. And it’s amazingly simple and fun to create these effects! In this class, you will get to use various tools to create designs (or “mark-making”) in your wax painting, and then add color with oil colors and finish with highlights of sparkly mica powder.

This is a great workshop to explore Tracy's new and fun techniques! As the owner of ARTspot, she has access to a wonderful smorgasbord of art supplies and she brings them all to this full day exploration of what plays well with wax. You will have lots of time to play, and complete two projects for too much fun!

“Try It!” is a FUN way to try something new! Just 2 ½-hours on a Friday night, and no supply list: come with a friend or make it a date night – or come by yourself and make some new friends! Great for beginners! This Try It! is all about learning how to create a wonderful painting with Encaustic (hot, melted beeswax) and collage. Tracy will bring everything for you to use for collage. Your finished piece will have wax layered over collage, and collage layered over the wax - a work of art you'll be proud of!
