Description:
Drawing the world around us is about truly being in a particular moment. The intense focus that drawing entails, brings joy, relaxation and satisfaction.  Drawing also teaches you so much about WHAT it is you are drawing.  It is directly learning from our world.  This drawing ability is one every one of us are capable of and it just takes some practice in learning how to really “see”, and not get confused by our own mind’s preconceptions of what it is in front of us. Most of us don’t exercise that part of the brain, so we conclude we can’t draw. But you can! The same skills are used over and over again to draw anything on earth, so once you master these few, you have all the tools you need to really draw what you are seeing. It is truly magical!

In this beginning class, which repeats throughout the year, we will go through the some of the most basic elements of drawing: line, shape, value and form. You will gain the skills to draw what is in front of you by simplifying complex shapes, gauging proportions and vertical/horizontal relationships, convey real depth on the page and create the illusion of 3-dimensional form through shading strategies.

Since we’re “Staying Home” these days, we are offering this 4-week class as an online course. It will include live sessions with Julia, including instruction and demos, and you’ll get to interact during Q&A times where you’ll also be able to get feedback on your work. In addition - and this is a cool bonus for online classes - you’ll be able to download the sessions to play and replay as many times as you want. This is also a great benefit if you have to step away for a few minutes or even miss a session.

This class is perfect for the beginner or anyone who wants a refresher course on some basic drawing skills, it can be retaken repeatedly as the drawing subjects will change each class.  Our materials are graphite and charcoal.

And The Joy of Drawing: The Joy Continues! In this follow up class we will continue with our drawing adventure, practicing and honing skills we began in Part 1.
