“Life” as in people and animals, and “life” as in energy and excitement. Learn to paint boldly with vivid color! Think outside the box, and paint outside those lines! Designed to help students at every skill level to master techniques, you’ll learn Bev’s tips and tricks, work on design, develop good composition, basic color mixing, and strong values.

Some experience in watercolor is helpful.

Sumi-e Art and Notans Painting for Beginners

Elegant and harmonious, ancient and beautiful, traditional ink wash paintings are a wonderful form of artistic expression!  You will have a great introduction to Sumi ink technique, design and materials on the first day. Day 2 will be all about color Sumi-e techniques and Notan studies. Perfect for all levels, even beginners! If you’re already a watercolorist, this is be a great way to improve your watercolor techniques.

Our “Try It!” classes are a great place to try something new! Make it a fun Friday night out with your friends or a date night.  In this class, you’ll follow along step by step with this fabulous instructor to create a whimsical (and need we say, delicious looking) watercolor painting of donuts! You’ll learn about some basics of watercolor painting in a stress-free environment, all while having a terrific time. A great class for any level, whether you’ve painted before or never touched a brush. Try It!

Crazily Creative Portraits in Mixed Media

Get ready for some fun portrait drawing and painting! With this award-winning portrait artist and instructor, you’ll break out of the mold and learn to spice up your portraiture with your own expressive and creative style using watercolor, acrylics, pastels, charcoals and inks.  After a quick review of how to get the features in the right places, you’ll learn ways to paint out-of-the-box, edgy, funny, emotional, and surreal faces.  This course is open to all who have good drawing experience, at least a little portraiture, and have used one or more of the painting mediums listed above. Not suitable for beginners.

With this experienced instructor, beginners in watercolor will be encouraged and have a lot of fun! You’ll learn all about getting the colors and values you want - without making mud!  Through simple exercises and paint along with the instructor demos, we will take the mystery out of this beautiful medium. Individual attention will make this a good class for painters to learn the right amount of water and paint to use to get the desired effects.  Playful experimentation encouraged!
