Description:   
Do you want to learn how to paint your own Holiday cards?  Would you like to create priceless treasures to give this Christmas season?  Join Denise for her annual winter class exploring the fun of miniature watercolor painting and hand-made cards.  The goal will be for each student to create several miniatures, one which can be copied and made into your own personal seasonal card.

 You will learn how to paint a range of subjects from little birds with snow falling, tiny winter landscapes with trees and mountains and so much more. Denise will share all of her tricks and tips for successful watercolor painting and with her step by step methods, everyone will have success!  Create festive winter scenes and improve your painting skills and - most of all - have fun!

You can pick up all your great art supplies at ARTspot in Edmonds just a block from Cole Gallery.  Registered Cole Art Studio students will receive a 10% discount on all their art supplies.  

Palette:
Any watercolor palette - small to large, your choice. (John Pike is Denise's favorite.)

Paper:

  • You may use cut up, card-sized, cold or hot press 140lb watercolor paper such as Arches or Fabriano (bring board to tape paper on)

  • Or one pack watercolor cards

Paints:
A varied assortment of quality watercolors

If you wish to buy paints individually, this is Denise’s basic palette. If you have a good quality travel set with several colors, that will work as well:

  • Hansa Yellow

  • Quinacridone Red

  • Ultramarine Blue

  • Phthalo Blue

  • Sap Green

  • Quinacridone Sienna

  • Quinacridone Gold

  • Quinacridone Magenta or Permanent Rose

  • Cobalt Teal

Required: 1 tube White Gouache (to make snow!)

Watercolor Brushes: Good quality synthetic or sable brushes

  • ½” Flat (clear-handled synthetic)

  • Rounds: #2, #8

  • or your favorite watercolor brushes

Other:

  • Wintry or Christmas themed photos to paint from or Holiday themed still life set up. The studio will also have images on hand.

  • Masking Tape

  • Old Tooth Brush

  • Pencil, Kneadable eraser

  • Paper towels

  • Spray water bottle, Ruler, Scissors

  • Something to take your beautiful pieces home in.
