Tracy Felix Acrylic Palette Selections

Sometimes students want to know what colors the instructor uses. This is the list of supplies I keep on my palette for my contemporary style painting techniques. I have also listed the mediums I use most often, and preference for canvas style.  Please note: This is for your reference only - it is not required for each student to have all these colors.

Tracy’s uses Golden’s Heavy Body Acrylics in the following colors:

Basics:

  • Titanium White
  • Titanate Yellow
  • Cadmium Yellow light (any cool yellow)
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium (any warm yellow)
  • Cadmium Red or Napthol Red Light
  • Quinacridone Magenta
  • Cerulean or Manganese Blue
  • Ultramarine (or Anthraquinone) Blue
  • Phthalo or Cobalt Blue
  • Burnt Umber
  • Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna
  • Carbon Black
  • Optional Additions (some of my favorites):
  • Buff White
  • Zinc White
  • Naples Yellow
  • Cadmium Orange
  • Burnt Sienna and Quinacridone Burnt Orange (side by side on palette to mix)
  • Cadmium Green Light
  • Dioxazine Purple
  • Green Gold
  • Micaceous Iron Oxide

Any color that inspires you is a good color!

Mediums:

  • Golden Acrylic Gel Mediums and Molding Pastes
  • Soft Gel Gloss
  • Regular Gel Gloss
  • Heavy Gel Gloss and Matte
  • Regular or Light Molding paste
  • Tar Gel

Supports:

  • Heavy Cotton stretched canvas in 1 ½ inch depth so I can continue my painting around to the sides. No framing required for this depth of canvas.
