"From Sketching to Pen and Ink" w/ Jennifer Diehl

DATE/TIME: Sat-Sun Sept 20-21   10:30-5:30

COST: $225

LOCATION:  Cole Art Studio located on the lower level of Cole Gallery.  107 5th Ave. S., Edmonds 98020

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Sketching is the basis for everything that we do as artists. Sometimes it is the beginning of what we are working on, and sometimes it IS the end result that we are looking for. In either case, the importance of the art is not left behind. As artists, sketching is one of the handiest tools that you have in your belt and so long as you have paper and pen, it can be done anywhere!

It is the practice of this brain-hand connection exercise called sketching that will help you in any visual art that you want to create. Sketching is the practice of how to get your hand to listen to exactly where you want the mark to be without anything extra to consider...paint, color, etc etc. This does not mean that it is any less of an art form, in fact, while appearing simple, it can be a thing of great beauty.

This workshop will contain lectures about the concept of sketching, things to keep in mind during the process, and some demonstrations of a few techniques with a couple of different mediums. You’ll then focus on how to create pen & inks in the bustle of a busy establishment and how to best use the medium itself to get the look that you want. With a little practice on your own, you're then off to a cafe to enjoy the fabulous and historical combination of art and cafe!

Award-winning artist Jennifer Diehl invites you to join her in this fun and fabulous weekend, “There isn’t a more relaxing way to learn so much!  Come sketch with me!”
