Julia will teach from different images each session, so you can take this course repeatedly.

A walk out in nature as a sketch hunter yields such treasures, from a majestic cedar to the discovery of an intrepid mushroom at the foot of the tree. As we open our eyes to the wonders, large and small, we begin to record them by observing and drawing. These drawings teach us in real time about that which we draw. The very act of drawing brings up questions that we never knew to ask. Our world is larger for having spent some quality time with that mushroom!

In the manner of artistic nature-journals the world over, we will practice simple and effective ways to create nature scenes as well as detailing the micro elements you wouldn’t see in the big scene. Learn how to compose and simplify a nature scene or landscape as well as the typical drawing techniques to handle flowers and insects. In this class we will also work with color, in any media you choose, watercolor, color pencils, watercolor pencils etc, to add just enough color for memory, feeling and identification of species.  This class teaches you how to capture a time and place and truly meditate on the wonder that is all around us hidden in plain sight.  This class can be taken more than once as the subjects will change.
