DESCRIPTION:

In this 2 day workshop you will have the opportunity to learn to paint a landscape full of atmosphere - whether it's a foggy river scene, a dramatically sunlit evening, or a sweeping vista with layer upon layer of mountain ranges.

You will be taught about aerial perspective and how to create a sense of depth in landscape paintings.  You may paint from your own reference or from one that Andy will bring.  In two days you will leave with a great masterpiece of your own in oil or acrylic.  (If you are going to use oils, it will be important to use a drying medium.)

**Students: Please base coat your canvases with a layer of equal parts Payne’s grey/cobalt blue/titanium white. If you are using oil please thin your color with gamsol. If using acrylic please thin with a little water. It is essential that your canvases are dry before start of class.

Acrylic or Oil Paint:

  • Titanium White
  • Prussian Blue
  • Cobalt blue
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Cad red medium
  • Cad yellow medium
  • Cad yellow dark
  • Yellow ochre

Oil painters will need odorless mineral spirits, such as gamsol, galkyd light (or other preferred glazing/drying medium). Please note, no stinky mediums will be allowed.

Acrylic painters may wish to bring a retarder and glazing medium.

Brushes: I prefer to use inexpensive synthetic long‐handled brushes (white nylon)

  • Two to three Flat, Bright or Filbert brushes, #2‐ #6 (long handled – double sized, this will mean the #6 will be about 1⁄2 wide)
  • One Large Flat or Bright brush for covering the canvas with color, (about 1 ‐2 inches)
  • Two ‐ three small round brushes, like a #1‐#6 (again long handled, not watercolor size brushes) Plus any other brushes you might have.
