Acrylic paintings with a fresh perspective are Cheryl Waale’s niche. She has developed a recognizable style--turning ordinary subjects into extraordinary works which offer many layers of color and texture. Her paintings appear to have layers of stories embedded in them. The results are works that take the 2D medium to a new level.
This workshop is for beginning to intermediate painters who want to experience the joy of creating small expressionist works of art that include your own stories. The focus will be to paint a bird or animal loosely and creatively with acrylic and other water friendly mediums. Cheryl will guide you using the basics of strong design while you build your painting by adding layers of vibrant color and collage with the emphasis on keeping your paintings lively, loose and fresh.
The workshop includes short demos and guidance on laying the groundwork and making decisions that will lead to a painting that will please. Once you’ve selected your image(s), Cheryl will help you create an underpainting that is loaded with paint, collage and ‘mark making’ (i.e. charcoal, pencil, pen, etc). While one canvas dries, you’ll begin another and back and forth you’ll go during the two days, working on two paintings simultaneously.
Whether you’re a beginner or have painted for some time, Cheryl will bring a sense of freedom and joy to the process of creating a work that is inspired by pushing boundaries. Be prepared to work outside the lines!
