Description:
Landscapes come alive when water is introduced into the scene.  Master of waterscapes, Mike Wise will teach you how to paint transparency and vivid reflections, in addition to expressing the natural beauty of the surrounding terrain.

If you’ve seen his paintings in Cole Gallery, you have been captivated by his amazing waterscapes. Whether ponds with lily pads floating on the surface, or mountain lakes filled with half-submerged logs and boulders, Mike’s paintings have inspired artists, students and collectors alike.

This 3-day workshop will be held in Mike’s beautiful and spacious home studio on Whidbey Island, one of the beautiful islands in Washington’s Puget Sound. His newly renovated studio is perfect for a group of 12 students, light and airy with all the accouterments every artist would want.  You can combine a weekend get-away with a fantastic learning experience from one of the Northwest’s best oil painters!

Mike will guide you step-by-step in capturing the combination of translucence with reflection.  With his encouraging and generous approach to instruction, students of a variety of levels will follow along and learn how to lay on paint, using palette knife, brushes and shapers to build texture and create realistic effects with an impressionist style. You will learn how to create believable water and shorelines, how to change the values to capture the reality of a fallen log, or the stillness of deep water with lily pads floating on the surface. Mike will also demonstrate how to introduce water as a subordinate design element to direct and balance the picture, such as puddles or a flooded field.

Mike is a naturally gifted teacher, and the students of his previous workshops have raved about him, many of them saying he was “the best instructor they had ever had”! The word is out about this excellent instructor, and we anticipate this workshop filling quickly, sign up today!

This workshop is not suitable for beginners.
