Description:
If the idea of drawing a portrait is intimidating to you…. If you feel you lack the necessary drawing skills to create a believable portrait…. Or maybe you have been somewhat successful in painting a portrait but have never taken an actual Portrait Drawing class…. If any of these describe you, we have the workshop for you! Joe’s students love him - he is one of those gifted instructors who enjoys watching a student go from “Oh no, I can’t!” to a delighted “Wow! I never knew I could!” Joe Mac Kechnie loves to create portraits and will be happy to introduce you to the secrets of drawing a believable portrait.

In this workshop, Joe will share with you fundamental drawing techniques with an emphasis on measuring and drawing the portrait. Several original drawing techniques will be used for correctly representing facial proportions. These techniques will help you to create a surprisingly accurate representation of the subject. (Yes, you will be surprised!) Joe will also teach you how to correctly model the light and shadows so that the portrait will come alive, will look three dimensional and will provide an intriguing presentation.

For this workshop, we will be working from photos – please feel free to bring some of your own, or you can borrow one of Joe’s images. Check out the images of Joe’s paintings here on this page to get some ideas of what to look for.
