Description:
You have seen and admired Mike’s amazing paintings. Two things they all have in common, whether a farm scene, a lily-pad covered lake, or a rushing river, are amazing composition and dramatic lighting. Have you wondered just how to get that composition to sing like Mike does? How to create a scene that feels so right, so balanced, so interesting that you can’t help but stare at it and soak it in? And above all, how to get those light effects, like the dappled sunlight on a waterfall, or the slanting sun glinting off a lake’s surface? How does he do it? Now you’ll have the opportunity to learn these techniques from the master himself!
Learning how to design and paint a pleasing composition is a key concept for all artists, and part of this workshop will focus on this important aspect. You will learn what makes a good painting by learning how to design a strong composition. Mike will explore balance, rhythm, unity and variation as he teaches you how to approach your landscape painting.
Another critical element in impressionism is learning how to paint light. In this intensive 3-day workshop, you will learn how Mike achieves that "pop" in his paintings through his use of planned use light and shadows. Through demo and discussion, practice and experimentation, this exciting painter and experienced instructor will share his techniques and knowledge about color and color strategies; you’ll learn how to use values and temperature to capture the brilliance of reflecting light, and contrasting shadows.
With Mike’s encouraging and generous approach to instruction, you will follow along with his step-by-step method to develop a greater understanding of composition, and you will learn to use color to create dramatic effects and bring luminosity to your impressionist landscape paintings.
Suitable for experienced students from the advanced beginner to intermediate and advanced oil painters. Not suitable for acrylic painters.
