Description:

Angela will lead students gently through her process off learning to draw. Beginning with a discussion about supplies and how they are to be used, she’ll move on to work with students on mark making, line work, shapes, values, and shading. After a demo, students will work on concepts in class and share them with Angela by email so that she can edit the images on screen to illustrate any changes she’d recommend. After a 1-hour lunch break, Angela will do a second demo and again have students work on their classwork and send to her for feedback. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and ask any and all questions throughout the class. Handouts and videos will be available before class for students to review in advance through a student webpage that will be sent to you along with the link to the Zoom session.

What you can expect to learn:

    • What different marks you can make with a pencil

    • All about values

    • Finding shapes to create the framework for a solid drawing

    • Learning to “see” like an artist so you can make your drawings look more realistic and less cartoon-like

What to wear: anything that you’d wear in front of your grandma :)

What to bring: a smile, your computer, a smartphone and your supplies

How the online experience will be:

Angela has a Student Page created that you’ll get the link to in advance of the class. This page will include the following (some items, such as the in-class demos, will be posted after class):

    • Links to download Pdf and Jpg files for the class

    • Multiple videos including painting demos and tips

After morning greetings and introductions, Angela will begin with her first demo and then she’ll help talk you through your next assignment. While you’re working, you’ll take photos of your work with your smartphone and email them directly to Angela so she can bring them up for you both to walk through what elements are working and what elements need to be changed. There will be a one-hour lunch break and students are encouraged to work at their own pace. At least two demos will be done during this workshop.
