Description:
Enjoy a day of painting with pastel. The focus of the workshop will be on the use of color. Learning how to use value, hue, and intensity to create vibrant pastels. The sky can be green, the grass can be blue. It’s all in the use of the color. Pastels open up an exciting way to explore these uses. We will concentrate on painting from photos. Janis will demonstrate how to grid out your photo and how to focus on the large shapes within.

We will also look into color relevance. How color is effected by the local color. The day will be open to any subject you wish to work on. Bring your own photos or use the photos provided.

Pastels:

  • NuPastel set of 12 or 24
  • Sennelier or Jack Richeson soft pastels. There are a variety of color selections. Choose what appeals to you!

Paper: At least 2 sheets 9x12 or larger. Any of these brands will work:

  • U Art Pastel Paper
  • MI Tientes "Touch" paper or board (buy one get one free at ARTspot during July 2018)

(Janis likes to use sanded paper such as MI Tiente "Touch",  UArt or Pastel Premier).

  • Ipad/tablet to look at your images
  • 1 tote board 13x17 or 23x26
  • Masking tape or frog tape
  • 1 inexpensive brush ½” to 1”
