How do you create a story? What elements should you use to create the narrative and how do you put it together into a cohesive whole that invites the viewer to engage? Whether painting people in glowing cityscapes, warm interiors or in landscapes, Jennifer Diehl is an amazing artist who has delighted us for years with her ability to paint a visual narrative that we can “walk into”.

Jennifer says, “In order to say what you want in a piece, you have to create an environment for the story and also be able to put any elements in that story that you need.  Using the environment and the human figure to work hand in hand to express your ideas is a crucial tool in your toolbox.”

In this 3-day workshop, Jennifer will guide students in how to use light, color, perspective and design to paint that environment you can use to tell a story; how to paint natural looking figures and connect them to their environment to help tell that story; and how to pull it all together to communicate through your painting. With simple steps, Jennifer Diehl will demonstrate how to capture people in interiors, landscapes or cityscapes in oil or acrylic painting.

Come and learn from one of the most beloved artists and instructors of Cole Gallery to use the human form to tell your story.
