Description:
In this beginning printmaking class, learn the multi-step process that will allow you to successfully and consistently produce quality block prints. Experience the beauty and simplicity of ink on paper. Chris will guide you through all the steps from concept to finished print –designing, carving, inking and printing your creation.
This is a fun, fast-paced class with a goal of giving you as much carving time as possible. There won't be a lot of lecturing here, but an abundance of valuable tips and techniques. It's hands on right from the start. Chris will explain the basics, and you'll be well on your way to completing a print within the first hour.
You can choose a design from one of the instructor-provided subjects, or you can bring your own good ideas (photos, etc.). Chris will help you simplify them into a workable drawing. Starting with instructor-provided linoleum squares, you will learn how to safely use simple carving tools (v-groove, u-shaped, etc.) to get just the right effect. After inking up your block, you’ll experience the thrill of "pulling the print" - followed closely by many ooh's and ah's! In the end, you will come away with a fun, basic exercise print, and one or more detailed, finished prints.
This workshop is for anyone, from the person with no art background, to the seasoned artist looking to explore a new medium. Come join the fun!

- Basic drawing tools: pencil, eraser, straight edge
- Sharpie - fine and regular tip
- 4" soft roller
- Handle w/cutters (Speedball or comparable)
- Printing ink: small tube black water based
