Description:
Paint Splash is the once a year summer workshop designed around water-media techniques to create loose, free and full-of-life paintings.

This class is great for experimenting... discover new effects and ways to handle paints. The wet flowing nature of acrylics can mimic watercolor paints, but so much more! We can drizzle, create resists, squirt, pour, splatter and manipulate wet paints in so many interesting ways.

We will set one painting out in the sun to dry and keep on painting, rotating our canvases to take advantage of the sun. This is a great class to practice painting in series, so plan on bringing at least two canvases so you can paint on one while the other is drying.

A great play date for anyone interested in adding some new ideas to their process of making art. You will love the way pigment travels and blossoms with wet-on-wet techniques.

Tracy encourages experimentation, so a variety of supplies is welcome in all her workshops.

Painting Supports: Required to have at least two of the following:

• 11x14, 16x20s or similar size stretched canvas
  Note: Depth Canvases come in different depths. The main consideration with depth is how you prefer to display it later:, consider the deeper 1.5” doesn’t need framing. The ¾” depth is a bit more economical and can easily pop into a frame.
  -OR-
• 300 lb watercolor paper stretched onto Gatorboard or similar backing can also be used.  (Most students opt for the stretched canvas.)

Paints:
Tracy strongly encourages you to use artist quality paints - she uses Golden paints as the pigments are pure and bright. The following are required:

• Any combination of Golden Acrylic Heavy Body (tubes), Fluid Acrylic Paints, or High Flow Acrylics. Your choice of colors.

Additional Pigments:

• 2-3 Inktense Color Pencils
• Any other water-soluble graphite pencils, color pencils, crayons or water-soluble pastels you have or would like to try. Ask ARTspot staff to show you the variety of these products.

Mediums:

• Required: One of the following Gel Mediums (Use this to collage, or stretch out the coverage of your paints.)
  Soft or Pourable Acrylic Gel Medium - your choice of glossy or matte. 
  -OR-
  Regular Gel Medium - your choice of glossy or matte.
• Optional: add molding paste if you want to add stenciling texture effects

Brushes:

• Variety of ACRYLIC Bristol and/or synthetic Brushes - be sure to bring large size brushes!
• One flat sided metal palette knife

Palette:

• You can use a rectangular Tupperware type container with lid or can purchase a sealing palette. Tracy uses the Artelier Airtight Peel-Off Palette as it keeps the paint from drying out between painting sessions.

Optional to bring:

• One Jacquard Mica Powder color of your choice if you would like to add metallic sheen to the colors you are splashing!
• The Crafters Workshop "TCW" (or similar plastic) Stencils (6x6’ or 12x12”)
• Sharpie marker
• Paper towels
• Apron or old shirt
