DESCRIPTION:

Learn to paint interesting, exciting interiors in watercolor with Ron Stocke. A master watercolorist who has taught workshops all over the U.S. and internationally, Ron’s overall teaching focus is to help students develop their own style, while incorporating the fundamental elements of his workshop.

In this 2-day workshop, Ron will demonstrate techniques on how to approach painting an interior scene. You’ll learn how to deal with the typical challenges you may face like multiple light sources, reflective surfaces, and how to paint furniture as your subject. He will demonstrate and teach how to paint details like flooring and wallpaper patterns. You’ll learn his tips and tricks for getting that cozy mood just right. Ron paints with M Graham watercolors - other professional quality brands like Daniel Smith are fine. Art Spot carries both brands and are compatible to use together.

Brushes:

Large Round & Flat brushes: Any large rounds & flats you have, in natural hair or good quality synthetics will be great for this class. Silver Brush, Connoisseur brushes, Princeton all make good quality brushes.

  • Round brushes: 6, 10 and 16 (the 16 can also be replaced with a #6 mop or quill)
  • Flat brushes: ½” and 1 ½ to 2”
  • Optional: ½ - ¾” dagger or rigger and one scrubber brush (any size)

Paper: Ron prefers Saunders or Waterford - other brands are acceptable.

  • Arches, Saunders or Fabriano 140 lb Cold Press watercolor paper. Each student should have a full sheet per day. You will be encouraged to work on 1/2 sheet size or W/C Block size 12x16 and larger (optional).
  • Sketchbook: I use the Aquabee Super deluxe. It’s offered in several sizes please nothing smaller than 9” x 9”. We will spend time most days starting in a sketchbook.
  • Students should bring some photo reference of images they want to turn into paintings

Other:

  • Support - Ron paints on an easel. Students should bring gator board/painting board to support their paintings.
  • Pencil or lead holder

  • Paper towels
  • Spray bottles
