Description:
In this fun “Try It!” class, students will have fun creating a painting of a goldfinch using an age-old technique called “reverse painting”. You will be using Rembrandt’s Goldfinch as the reference - see the floral images below as an example of the process.

Our “Try It!” classes are a great way to try something new without making a big investment of time and money. You can spend a great evening, maybe even make it a fun time with a friend, and try out an art form or a different medium – all in just a few hours. You don’t even have to spend a bunch of money on a supply list - just $10 straight to the instructor, and you are set!

In Reverse Painting on Plexiglass, you’ll be using the fascinating Medieval technique used in painting stained glass windows, a style of painting "front-to-back", working with negative space, in reverse of typical painting styles. Challenge your mind with this interesting technique that requires no advanced painting skills.

Dana will guide you step by step in this process. You’ll first lay the goldfinch photo (the reference will be supplied by Dana) under a sheet of clear plexiglass, then trace the outline of the image onto the plexi with a Sharpie, flip the plexi over and paint the image in reverse. After you have finished the painting, you’ll remove the Sharpie outlines. (See the above floral photos of this process.) While creating your painting, you’ll learn about various ways to do outlining, how to use washes, brushes and sponges to texturize your painting, you’ll play with dripping and spattering the paint, and even how to turn the artwork into a collage.

Supply list for this Try It? Nope!

Remember, in our "Try It!" classes, you don't have to go shopping to purchase any art supplies! All the supplies are included in the supply fee - just bring cash or a check made payable to the instructor on the evening of your fun class!
