Renowned impressionist Pam Ingalls will teach you to paint in the beautiful Russian impressionist style of “liquid light.” This experienced instructor will take each student at their own level through the basics, exploring value, color, and intensity in oil painting with still lifes using her fresh, impasto approach. Friday evening, watch a painting demonstration, with lots of time for questions afterwards. The next two days will be an immersion into learning how to paint. Plan to get inspired and walk away with new skills. The class will paint from a wide variety of still life vignettes.
The Friday evening painting demo is included in the fee for this class and will take place here at Cole Gallery. You will not want to miss watching Pam paint a portrait from start to finish in two hours!

Learn to oil paint in the Russian Impressionist tradition in rich, vibrant, warm color! This workshop is set up to take each student at their own level through the basics of oil painting - exploring value, color temperature, intensity, and edges with still lifes. With acclaimed artist and instructor Pam Ingalls, you will examine the light on simple subject matter and discuss the importance of allowing one’s choice of subject matter come from within.
Class will start with a demo Friday evening. Please arrange your schedules so that you can arrive early enough on Friday to watch the evening painting demonstration, with plenty of time for questions afterwards. This is an integral part of your workshop. The demo will begin promptly at 6:00pm and go until 8:00pm. Saturday and Sunday will be an immersion into painting “liquid light.” On these days, there will be 45-minute lunch break - feel free to bring your lunch.

SUPPLY LIST :
Paints: Artist grade oil paints.
Titanium white
Cad. yellow medium
Cad. red light
Alizarin crimson
Ultramarine blue
Pthalo blue
Ivory black
Medium: Odorless mineral spirits such as Gamsol, or any alkyd medium such as Gamblin's Neo Megilp is fine too.
Linseed oil and small jar or can, to contain it
Note: no smelly mediums, turpentine or regular mineral spirits will be allowed.
Brushes: Flats and Filberts
#4, 6 & 8 (depending on the brands, approximately 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch and 1 inch) - but Pam likes to paint with flat, soft natural hairbrushes or synthetic sable substitutes; if you have rounds or filberts already, that will work just fine.
Large Palette: It could be just a piece of glass about 16" x 20", with white paper taped to the back, a white plastic palette, or a wooden palette.
Supports: Canvases, Masonite Boards (with two coats of Gesso), or pre-gessoed Gesso Board in a variety of sizes - small (5x7) to as large as you’re comfortable with (16x20)
Misc:
Paper Towels or paint rags (Pam likes Viva or shop towels)
Palette Knife
Something to bring your painting home in (cardboard box, etc.)
Paper Sack for trash
Bring a lunch for your 45-minute break, if you think you’ll be too rushed to go out.
