Explore a simple, direct painting style while creating lively, expressive works. You’ll play with splashy, wet, painterly backgrounds and learn how to capture the true essence and personality of each subject. With step-by-step guidance, Denise will help you bring a variety of birds and animals to life in their natural environments.
With over 26 years of teaching experience, Denise makes watercolor easy to understand and enjoyable for all skill levels. Along the way, she’ll share her favorite tips and techniques to help you build confidence and grow your skills.
You’ll leave with a fresh appreciation for how fun, simple, and rewarding watercolor can be. Perfect for beginners with a little experience and intermediate painters alike—bring a friend and share the joy!

Description: With step-by step methods, Denise will guide each student to follow their own creative inspiration using photos as their reference.
Supply List: You can purchase your quality art supplies at Artspot and receive a 10% discount on all their art supplies.
Photos to paint from (Our studio will have some to select from as well)
Palette:
Watercolor palette with lid - John Pike or similar covered palette with space for mixing paints
Paper and Support:
You may cut-up cold or hot press 140lb or 300lb watercolor paper such as Arches or Fabriano to any size you wish to work in. (bring a board to tape paper on)
Paints:
A varied assortment of good-quality watercolors
If you wish to buy paints individually, this is Denise’s basic color. If you have a good quality larger sized travel set with several colors, that will work as well

Hansa Yellow
Quinacridone Red
Ultramarine Blue
Phthalo Blue
Sap Green or Green Gold
Quinacridone Sienna
Quinacridone Gold
Quinacridone Magenta or Permanent Rose
Cobalt Teal
White Gouache - if you wish to paint snow
Watercolor Brushes: Good quality synthetic or sable brushes
½” Flat
1”, 1.5” or 2” Flat
#8 Round & #2 Round
Medium squirrel mop brush or sumi brush
Optional - Medium cat tongue or oval brush (Silver brush…)
Or your favorite watercolor brushes
