Whether you’re brand new to the medium or looking to deepen your skills, Janis offers personalized guidance as you explore everything from landscapes to lively animal subjects. Learn essential techniques, including surface preparation, thoughtful composition, and confident color choices that make your paintings glow with life. Choose from a selection of inspiring reference images provided by Janis, or bring your own favorite photos to create artwork that’s uniquely yours. Come ready to experiment, learn, and leave with new skills and beautiful pastel paintings you’ll be proud to share.

Each student will work on their own projects with guided, one-on-one attention and guidance from Janis.
Paper: A variety of 9x12 - 8x10 pastelmat or pastel premier paper or Uart paper.
HARD Pastels: Prismacolor Nupastel set either 24 or 36
SOFT Pastels: 24 - 50 piece set of soft pastels such as Richeson, Rembrandt, Unison, Terry Ludwig. (You may need to shop online for some of these soft pastel sets.)
*If students do not wish to purchase paper, they may pay Janis $5 per sheet and she will provide them with the paper.
Drawing Board, to mount paper:
either a Tote board – 13x17 OR a hardboard, size 16x20”, (gator board, foam core or Masonite will work)
Other:
Kneaded eraser
Toothbrush
Masking tape
Aluminum foil
Paper towel
Ruler
Janis will bring photos for students to use.
