In-Person Class: All Levels welcome, Including Beginners!
In this 4-week class, you will cover all the basics of this vibrant medium while painting a variety of subjects from landscapes to animals. Janis will cover a range of topics including surface preparation, composition, and how to choose just the right colors to bring life into your paintings. Choose from images Janis provides or bring your own.

Whether you are just beginning or have experience with pastels, you will gain skills and knowledge on a range of subjects from preparation to finishing a painting in this vibrant medium. You will learn how to build a strong design and understand color and its impact on mood and energy. You will also learn how to create dimension as you capture the beauty of landscapes and animals - your choice!
Supply List: Most supplies are available at Art Spot in downtown Edmonds for 10% off to all students!
Paper: 1 sheet of each type, or 2 of just one type of these -
Canson Mi Teintes paper, La Carte and/or Canson Mi Teintes color touch.
Color choices beige, light gray, white – choose whatever you like.
(These come in large sheets, and Janis will help you cut them down to the right size in class.)
HARD Pastels: Prismacolor Nupastel set either 24 or 36
SOFT Pastels: 24 - 50 piece set of soft pastels such as Richeson, Rembrandt, Unison, Terry Ludwig. (You may need to shop online for some of these soft pastel sets.)
*If students do not wish to purchase paper, they may pay Janis a $15 supply fee and she will provide them with the paper.
Drawing Board, to mount paper:
either a Tote board – 13x17 to 18x18
OR a hardboard, size 16x20”, (gator board, foam core or Masonite will work)
Other:
Kneaded eraser
Toothbrush

Gloves
Janis will bring photos for students to use.
