“Try It!” is a FUN way to try something new! Just 2 ½-hours on a Friday night, and no supply list: come with a friend or make it a date night – or come by yourself and make some new friends! Great for beginners! This Try It! is all about learning how to create a wonderful painting with Encaustic (hot, melted beeswax) and collage. Tracy will bring everything for you to use for collage. Your finished piece will have wax layered over collage, and collage layered over the wax - a work of art you'll be proud of!

Elegant and harmonious, ancient and beautiful, traditional ink wash paintings are a wonderful form of artistic expression! You will have a great introduction to Sumi ink technique, design and materials on the first day. Day 2 will be all about color Sumi-e techniques and Notan studies. Perfect for all levels, even beginners! If you’re already a watercolorist, this is be a great way to improve your watercolor techniques.

In this 4-week class the projects each week will emphasize how to “see” like an artist and practicing techniques. The sessions will differ quarter to quarter! This class is for anyone who likes a new drawing challenge and instruction each week, and is also perfect for those who have completed Julia’s Joy of Drawing and the Joy of Drawing Continues and want to keep on drawing!

Join Mike Wise in his beautiful home studio on Whidbey Island, WA for this very special five-day workshop where you will work both outdoors and in studio. Mike will teach students his wonderful methods and techniques for capturing stunning landscapes outside, then take them into the studio to finish the paintings with the help of photos taken in the field.

With renowned impressionist Pam Ingalls, this class is designed to take each student through the basics of painting portraits with oils, in the Russian Impressionist's tradition. If you love color and patterns and want to learn how to create it in beautiful wax colors, this is the “Try It!” class for you! Tracy will show you how to paint with hot, pigmented wax, layering color and creating patterns using stencils, and you’ll finish your encaustic painting with alcohol ink to add even more color and shine! Finger-painting is fun! And it’s all about landscapes in this 1-day or 2-day fingerpainting workshop! Get ready for some fun portrait drawing and painting! With this award-winning portrait artist and instructor, you’ll break out of the mold and learn to spice up your portraiture with your own expressive and creative style using watercolor, acrylics, pastels, charcoals and inks. After a quick review of how to get the features in the right places, you’ll learn ways to paint out-of-the-box, edgy, funny, emotional, and surreal faces. The “twist” is that he’ll be guiding you in expressive and abstractive techniques, to take your drawing level to a fun, creative, exciting place where you learn to express your own voice!

Paintings in natural wax can have such intriguing subtlety. And it’s amazingly simple and fun to create these effects! In this class, you will get to use various tools to create designs (or “mark-making”) in your wax painting, and then add color with oil colors and finish with highlights of sparkly mica powder.

This is a great workshop to explore Tracy's new and fun techniques! As the owner of ARTspot, she has access to a wonderful smorgasbord of art supplies and she brings them all to this full day exploration of what plays well with wax. You will have lots of time to play, and complete two projects for too much fun!

Join David Marty and explore the fun subject of clouds – one of his favorite things to paint. Clouds are more than just white and fluffy – they are alive with colors and rich with darker shadows. Through demos and personal instruction, you’ll learn David’s approach to capturing this beautiful subject matter, from billowing cumulus to dramatic backlit cloud formations. He’ll work with you on composition, mixing colors and brushwork, and guide you as you create your own paintings of clouds.
